  • How to address Girlfriend's Parents

How should I address my girlfriend's parents?

I've been dating her for 5 years and living together for 3 and I've met her parents several times. But we haven't tied the knot yet either so its always kind of awkward answering the phone.

Is 叔叔 and 阿姨 correct? Or would you recommend something else? Thanks!

叔叔、阿姨 sounds perfect for me, cordial and friendly. I heard that someone said 伯父、伯母， but I think this is too formal.

you could always just ask them. they'd appreciate your thoughtfulness in finding out what they would prefer.

In Hong Kong where Cantonese is spoken, we usually use 世伯 and 伯母.  Only kids would address older men and women 叔叔、阿姨...
