What is the difference between 本 and 这 when they are both used to mean "this"? For example, when would you say 本周 or 这周?
本章 or 这章?
本段 or 这段?

The difference between "本“ and "这” , although they both have the meaning of "this",
however , "本“ also carries the meaning of " point of issue" at the same time.

For example: 本周：this "particular" week being talk about, or 这(一)周：this week.

本章：this particular page under discussion, or 这(一)章： this page.

本段：this particular section being talk about, or 这(一)段：this section.

Hi 熊,

本 is more refined and better to use if you want to use it formally.

这 is more casual and friendly compared to 本 as it is commonly used throughout the world.

本and 这 have the same basic semantic meaning "this" or "the (subject) under discussion", but 本 is more literary and elegant, and unlikely to appear in conversation. A noun modified by 本 is often directly related to the creator/writer/speaker/manager of the noun.

There isn't a relevant meaning difference. They both mean "this", but 本 is more formal.
So, 本 is often used in written chinese but rarely in spoken language.
本 is never followed by a mesure word.
