The political effect of such vehicles may be enormous,as they can go over land and sea and can cross most reasonable abstacles as if they aren't there.You could have the great "ports"of the world at the centre of the continents,if you wanted to.我有2点疑问 第一 句话里面 为什么AS IF引导的从句是现在时aren't 第二句话 我没有明白意思 就是说跟前面的话是什么关联 跟这种VEHICLE为什么有这种了 就可以有PORT了呢

1。as if they aren't there: 意思有点像： 假如没有obstacles
2。在这里'ports‘的意思不是港口，是个'commercial city', 非常重要的城市。在那里很多人从很多地方做生意。
