What is a good Chinese phrase that means "to take the time to do something" or "put in the effort to do something"? I wanted to say to a Chinese friend that since they had taken the time to teach me a Chinese word, I should take the time to learn the characters for it.

"to take the time to do something" — 必(需)要花时间去做(某)事。

"put in the effort to do something" — 用一些努力去做事。
